Read on to know the Karwa Chauth 2021 date, upvas time and puja shubh muhurat and significance.

Karwa Chauth, traditionally referred to as Karak Chaturthi, is observed on the Chaturthi Tithi (fourth day), Krishna Paksha (waning phase of the Lunar cycle) of the Kartik month (as per the Purnimant calendar) and Ashwin (as per the Amavasyant calendar). The names of the months differ, but the celebration date remains the same.

On this day, not only married women but even unmarried girls keep a day-long fast. Those married pray for their husband’s wellbeing while single women wish for a life partner.

This vrat concurs with the Sankashti Chaturthi vrat observed by devotees of Lord Ganesha. Interestingly, on Karak Chaturthi, women offer their prayers to Maa Parvati, who epitomises Akhand Saumbhagyavati. Devotees also hail the Mother Goddess as Karak Mata or Chauth Mata in some regions.
